Every business has a set of rules or standards (policies) and procedures which guide the way they do business.  However, these policies and procedures are often left to the memory of the owner/manager and never put into writing.  This can lead to inconsistent treatment of employee matters, business transactions with customers, and sets the company up for fraud or employee embezzlement.  Policies and procedures are generally presented in two forms that are often confused as the same thing.  The employee handbook and the Policy & Procedure Manual.  Though they both contain information about the company's policies and procedures each has  a very distinct purposes.  The Employee Handbook is written with the employee in mind concerning company policy issues, while the Policy and Procedure Manual is written for owners, managers and supervisors on the "how to" of policy and procedure matters.
