"That is just the way we do things around here"

You have just hired a new employee and he or she is training on the how things work in your organization with respect to their job.  As they are learning their job, things that could be done more efficiently are noticed.  Is your organization structured to accept their suggestions for improvement or would their questions about making changes be answered with the words above.

The words above are an expression of the corporate culture that often developes in an organization unless care is taken to avoid this situation.  Though all may not subscribe to this way of thinking,  it is often generally understood "That is just the way we do things around here". 

These words can be a dangerous phrase, they are often used in a negative fashion such as, "I know it doesn't really make sense, but that is just the way things are done around here".  This leads to low morale and a reduction of productivity.

The corporate values actually practiced by an organization, are an honest expression of an organizations true corporate culture.
